What you are describing sounds like the effects of a solar micro nova. The windows of Heaven will open up, the earth will be shaken, the earth will be burned, the side it come on initially will be toast. Tectonic plates will detach from the mantle, in massive earthquakes as they displace. Gases released from it will temporarily darken the sun and moon. It will be a bummer.
